2008 Tuff Trucks Rules

 

The rules promulgated in these rules are intended as guidelines for the sport of Tuff Truck 4x4 truck pulling. These rules have been adopted by the Allegheny Highland Pulling Association Inc. for the 2008 season. Nothing herein should be construed as a guarantee against injury or death to participants, crewmen, family members, bystanders or spectators. Each participant at an Allegheny Highland Pulling Association Inc. pulling event must assure that their equipment and replacements throughout the season meet the requirements for this class.

 

General Rules:
A.H.P.A. officials reserve the right to alter these rules before or during the season in order to deal with safety related issues or to insure the competitive nature of the class. The operation of all pulling event will follow the Allegheny Highland Pulling Association’s general rules.

 

1.     Class is open to 4x4 trucks with naturally aspirated gas engines, limit of 528 cubic inches. No nitrous, alcohol, tubros, or blowers are allowed.

 

2.     Limit of one four barrel carburetor, any intake.

 

 

3.     Cast iron heads only.

 

4.     Maximum of 166 inch wheel base

 

5.     Furthest point forward limited to be 60 inches from the center of the front axle, this includes weights.

 

 

6.     Cab may be altered. Cab and front clip must be within 1 inch of factory position.

 

7.     Must have all factory or OEM body parts in place. (Hood, fenders, doors, ect …).

 

 

8.     No duel wheels, tire size limited to 33 inch. (cut or uncut)

 

9.     Hitch height not to exceed 26 inches.

 

 

10. Hitch bracing is allowed no further forward than up to the back of the cab.

 

11. Solid suspension is allowed.

 

 

12. Helmet and OEM restraint system (seatbelt) is required to be used, fire suit is highly recommended but not mandatory.

 

13. 2.5 lb. fire extinguisher within easy reach of the driver is required.

 

 

14. Must have working front brakes or a drive line brake.

 

15. All trucks must have at least six inch wide u-joint shields around the rear u-joints constructed of at least 1/4 inch steel or 3/8 inch aluminum that will safely contain the u-joint and the ends of each shaft. In addition there will be at least one shaft loop in the middle of the drive shaft. All shields must be securely mounted to the vehicle. Any front shaft u-joint that is visible from the side of the truck must be shielded to contain the u-joint and the end of the shaft.

 

16. All vehicles equipped with a manual transmission must have a flywheel shield labeled as meeting minimum SFI Spec 6.3 or greater. Applications for which an SFI Spec flywheel shield is not available may use a properly attached SFI 4.1 or 4.2 blanket that completely covers the bell housing may be used in place of the shield; it must be attached to the block and extend rearward to the transmission with a minimum six inch overlap where it is fastened.

 

17. Must have a kill switch which will interrupt the ignition and stop the power to any electric fuel pump.

 

18. Weight class will be 5200 lbs.

 

19. Windows must be rolled up completely during the pull.

 

20. All judges’ decisions are final.
